No action on alleged assault on taxi driver

The bail of two men arrested in connection with the incident, in which a driver was punched, has been cancelled as police file the case

No further action will be taken against two young men from Woking arrested in connection with an alleged assault on a taxi driver in the town.

The incident happened at a taxi rank in The Broadway sometime between 1am and 2.15am on Saturday February 7, and sparked a Surrey Police appeal for witnesses.

It was alleged two men were involved in an altercation with the driver, who was punched in the face and suffered cuts and swelling above his left eye. He was taken to hospital for treatment.

Two men, aged 19 and 23, were arrested in connection with the incident but have since had their bail cancelled with police saying no further action will be taken against the duo.

A Surrey Police spokesman said: “All lines of enquiry have been completed and there is insufficient evidence to progress the case.

“The crime has been filed pending any further information coming to light.”

Anyone who has information should call the force on 101, quoting crime reference number 45150010481.
