A taxi is recovered after it allegedly crashed into a wall on Menlove Avenue close to the junction of Druids' Cross Gardens, Allerton, Liverpool.

A taxi driver was taken to hospital after a serious road accident in Allerton.

The silver Hackney collided with a tree and a wall after leaving the road in Menlove Avenue, near to the junction with Druids’ Cross Gardens

Fire crews, police and paramedics were called to the scene at around 4.20pm.

Firefighters stabilised the vehicle and used equipment to force open the driver’s door. The 38-year-old was taken to the Royal hospital by paramedics.

His condition is not currently known.

The ECHO understands that the accident involved no other vehicles.

At 7pm, the wreckage of the taxi still remained, with police tape surrounding it.

A low-loader later arrived to take the vehicle away.

A motorist who saw the wreckage told the ECHO: “It looked very serious.

“There were two fire engines, ambulances and police on the scene.

“The taxi had mounted the pavement and its near side looked to have hit the wall, which had been knocked down.

“The driver was cut free by the fire brigade.”
