The system is in place to maintain standards and maintain a decent ratio in respect of supply and demand - what you propose is failure., its failed all over the country and the very people you purport to free are the ones who have found life more difficult under deregulation than with regulation.

However, if you don't like the system you should perhaps get into elected office and attempt to change it from a position on a licensing committee?

Who said anything about deregulation? Standards can be maintained or improved upon by using quality controls like in any other trade. The ratio in respect of supply and demand is a red herring, as taxis don't drive themselves. What I was talking about is delimitation. The same drivers doing the same job driving their own vehicle. Oh and delimitation hasn't failed all over the country, London and East Lothian for that matter being a case in point. :-|

This is an argument we will never agree on - you know that and I know that.

However, I am reassured that the Law Commission for England and Wales - having considered all of the facts - a truly independent body - came to the conclusion that restriction of numbers wasn't a bad thing.

Gary we have Quality Controls, Also we are not the only transportation type in the City, Cities differ as far as the marketplace, Quality controls also have to have balance and act fairly to all passenger carrying vehicles, what works in London as far as cab trade goes can't work in Edinburgh, Fact.

Seriously and I know it's off topic but these app companies are going to be the game changer, so much so, deregulation or delimitation will soon become an irrelevance. :-|
