Taxi driver three times over drink-drive limit A Carlisle taxi driver who was more than three times the drink-drive limit while at work one afternoon could go to prison. Darren Roderick Lawson, of Pennine View Close, has already had his taxi-driving licence suspended by the city council, a court heard. The 36-year-old admitted drink-driving when he appeared before city magistrates yesterday, but sentencing was deferred until November 3 for probation reports. Lawson was told the offence was so serious that custody could not be ruled out. It was aggravated by the fact he was in a position of trust and could have put the public at risk. Prosecutor Alan Lovett said police attended the Warwick Road taxi rank on June 20 at about 2.30pm after being contacted by a member of the public. Officers, who found Lawson moving his taxi up the rank, carried out a roadside breath test which he failed. Tests at the police station showed him to be more than three times the drink-drive limit. Margaret Payne, defending, said Lawson suffered from a medical condition which may have affected the alcohol level in his system. He had last drunk alcohol at about 2am the previous morning and did not feel intoxicated. She said Lawson’s taxi-driving licence had already been suspended by Carlisle City Council and he was now working in a local hotel. The bench imposed an interim driving ban on Lawson. |

I bet some of your passengers like you, especially when you forget to ask them for their fare.
