Belfast driver fined for £400 for taxi licensing and insurance offences

A Belfast driver was fined a total of £400 and received 6 penalty points at Belfast Magistrate’s Court today.

Mr William George Shannon of St James Road, Belfast was fined £50 for using an unlicensed taxi, £50 for no taxi driver’s licence and £50 for no taxi operator licence. He was also fined £250 for no insurance and was ordered to pay a £15 offender levy.

On 6 September 2014, a Toyota Avensis was observed by DVA Enforcement Officers carrying passengers for hire to Titanic Quarter Belfast.

Further investigation revealed that the vehicle which was driven by Mr Shannon was an unlicensed taxi.
