VIDEO: Minicab driver caught on mobile phone whilst driving around Milton Keynes roundaboutA minicab driver has been given his 'first and final warning' after he was caught driving while using his mobile phone.
A video was shared with MKWeb showing the driver on his phone whilst travelling along the H3 Monks Way and going around a roundabout on Sunday afternoon (June 28).
The person who took the video claims that he narrowly missed touching the back of their car they were a passenger in which prompted them to film the driver on their mobile phone.
In the video the driver spots he is being filmed and he puts down his mobile phone.
The taxi driver who works for Speedline Taxis was off duty when the video was taken and the company has condemned his action and urged the person who took the video to report it to Thames Valley Police.
Sarah Prottor, a manager at Speedline Taxis, said: "We have spoken to the driver involved.
"He was not working at the time but he has been given a first and final warning.
"He has been told if it happened again he will be dismissed and we advised the person who took the video to call the police and report it."
MKWeb understands that off duty taxi drivers are supposed to take their company stickers off their cars or drive their personal vehicles to make it clear they are not working.
Speedline Taxis is based in Old Startford and offers a private hire and taxi service around Milton Keynes and Northampton.
Their drivers are all fully licensed and CRB checked by South Northamptonshire Council.
A spokesman from Thames Valley Police said: "It is illegal to use a handheld mobile phone or a device for sending or receiving data while driving.
"Research shows that using any type of mobile distract you from driving and reduce your reaction times significantly.
"Drivers caught could face a £100 fine, a court hearing or three penalty points."
