Cabbies launch booking app where every fare supports a Liverpool charity

A generous taxi initiative where 10p of every fare is given to charity has been set up in Liverpool.

Innovative scheme Cabgo allows customers to chose from more than a dozen local groups to support, with around 100 city cabbies already signed up.

Charities from Alder Hey to the Anthony Walker Foundation are set to benefit from the project, while local sports clubs are also among the groups customers can donate to.

Set up by directors Paul McCormack and Simon Hampson, Cabgo is an app-based taxi hiring firm that links customers to black cab drivers.

The pair hope their scheme can help boost charities active across Merseyside while also highlighting the link between cab drivers and the local community.

Excited about the venture, which launched this week, Paul said: “I think it’s fantastic, it’s a way forward... a chance to give it [the industry] a good name. The taxis are working in the community for their community.”

Cabgo takes 50p from a driver’s fare for booking the ride, and 10p of that will go to the customer’s chosen charity, with The Reader Organisation, The Woodlands Hospice, Toxteth Fire Fit Hub and the Whitechapel Centre also among those that are part of the scheme.

Cabgo said the donation will not have an impact on the cost of journeys to the passenger, however.

Phoenix taxis, a nice group of guys but I hope they get more drivers on it because when it's busy you can't get them.

A couple of plagiarist spivs, who would be better keeping a low profile.

It's going to be very difficult for CabGo to keep a "low profile" now. The charity exposure and driver sign ups in Liverpool alone have been unbelievable. With 2 more updates and more unique features to come, it's going to snowball beyond belief.

Unlike the other apps that have very little in the way of a marketing strategy, CabGo has connected with passengers and the download rates are extremely positive. All drivers should download the app because CabGo will get the work by working with local and national charities in order to spread the word. It's the feel good factor and the passenger doesn't do the donating, they simply tell CabGo who to donate to.

The charity involvement has enabled CabGo to work with corporate fundraisers, the local council and many small, medium and large enterprises. Paul McCormack's vision of helping to regenerate the taxi trade, providing an excellent service for passengers and supporting local and national charities is proving to be a winning formula.

There are many apps that have failed or are failing and this is caused by many factors. These people should not be bitter or Green with envy but should instead try to unite the trade.

I for one wish them well and as I've said before I've always found the drivers at Phoenix professional and helpful when they've covered my work :D

All great features except that they are not Paul McCormack or Simons Hampsons vision or ideas are they?

People like toots should be aware of the facts! Take the time toots to check out the link.

A couple of corner boys not worth pursuing.

That charities might benefit is a small token towards honesty.

I used Phoenix before their App and as I have said I've never had a problem with them. If there is a problem with the App then something should be done about it I guess.

I registered with Uber as a punter recently, to see if any cars were actually working locally.

What did impress me was the ease of booking a car, no typing just clicking.

So how does the punter put their destination in or don't they?

They just hover the icon over the destination and click.

The screen is akin to google and apple maps, but possibly better.

I'll have to give it a go, I'm a bit of a clutz with touch screen but it sounds easy enough
