Attacked brothers' anger after taxi driver driver only receives caution for nunchuks assault

TWO brothers left injured in an attack by a taxi driver following a night out in the town centre have expressed their disgust he was only handed a caution by Bedfordshire Police.

Michael Middlemiss and his brother James got a taxi back with a friend from Bedford Corn Exchange to their house in Kempston, when a minor dispute took a turn for the worst.

The brothers were attacked with a set of nunchuks after they got out of the taxi, leaving Michael unconcious and with a bloodied ear.

On the attack, Michael said: "The dispute ended with him asking us to leave the taxi, which we did, only for him to come and attack me and my brother."

The incident, which happened just outside South Wing Hospital left Michael knocked out, concussed and left with a bloodied ear, for which the driver only received a caution.

James carried his brother to A&E with the help of a friend who was also in the car .

He said: "It's disgusting that the driver only received a caution as it could have been so much worse."

A Bedfordshire Police spokesman said: "The issuing of a caution was deemed the best course of action in order to bring about a guaranteed positive result for the victim."

How was that a positive result? I hope that it shows up on his DBS.

It would not be reported as a caution unless he had accepted it.

He might have had a Box Caution at the descretion of the Officer in charge where, they keep it on the box in the Police station for 6 months then its deleted no trace on a DBS.

It has been reported in the local paper. Therefore it is in the public domain. I think it is fair to say that the caution was eccepted by the driver.

Fair enough but like I mentioned above the police use two types of caution, the normal caution and a one they place in the box for 6 months which doesn't go out into the domain, I'm presuming the box is the computer in the police station and is at the discretion of the on duty officer at the time.
