Multi-coloured packets of cocaine worth £70 million found in the boot of a minicab Cocaine worth an estimated £70 million has been found in the boot of a minicab. A huge 200kg of the drug in several high-purity blocks was seized by police after they found it stashed in holdalls in a minicab near Tilbury Docks in Essex in the early hours of yesterday. The driver and seven others have been arrested by detectives investigating the importation of drugs in London and the Home Counties. "We've seized a massive amount of cocaine which we believe would have made organised criminals in excess of £70 million had it reached the street-level sellers that it was intended for. The vast majority of these drugs would have been destined for the streets of London, where drug sales line the pockets of criminals and blight the communities in which they are sold. I can only estimate the substantial amount of acquisitive crime that would have been committed to fund the purchase of these drugs." – Detective Inspector Andy Whitewood, of the Metropolitan Police Officers from the Metropolitan Police's Special Intelligence Section, working with Essex Police personnel, intercepted two cars near Tilbury Docks at approximately 2am yesterday morning. They stopped the white minicab on the A1089 and during a search discovered numerous blocks of high-purity cocaine, weighing 200kg, stashed in holdalls in the boot. The driver, a 29-year-old man from Essex, was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to import drugs and conspiracy to supply controlled drugs. Depends how pure it is, most dealers cut it so that £70million becomes £140million. When you get down to the street dealers they'll cut it again, you can add another £40million to that. |

Six in court after £50m worth of 100% pure cocaine found in minicab boot Six men have appeared in court on drugs charges after around £50 million worth of 100% purity cocaine was found in the boot of a minicab near Tilbury Docks in Essex. Some 200kg of the class A drug in several blocks was found in holdalls in a minicab after officers from the Metropolitan Police's Special Intelligence Section and Essex Police personnel intercepted two cars at around 2am on Tuesday. The men are charged with conspiracy to supply cocaine. They are mini-cab driver John Parish, 29, of Fanton Chase, Wickford; Danny Hannaway, 24, of Lea Road, Grays; Greg Spiers, 47, of London Road, Billericay; Tony Rees, 31, of Cecil Avenue, Chafford Hundred; Neil Jacques, 40, of Avondale Road, Rayleigh, and Robert McGowan, 45, of Chequers Road, Loughton. Westminster Magistrates' Court heard that it is thought the cocaine arrived on a ship from Brazil at the docks at around 6pm on July 20. The drugs were then unloaded from the boat later that same night.
