Tenner taxi dodge turns into £255 court bill

A Hucknall man’s bid to dodge a £10 taxi fare left him facing court charges of £255.

Edward Charles Sander, 37, of Royce Avenue, admitted attempting to make off without paying the driver after a journey to Bakersfield on June 25.

Last Friday, Nottinghamshire magistrates discharged him conditionally for 12 months and ordered him to pay compensation of £10, a victim surcharge of £15, costs of £50 to the Crown Prosecution Service and a criminal courts charge of £180.

I notice that the (apparent) judicial system seems to make more out of crime than the vics - on every occasion  ........£10 compensation #-o

The driver wasn't required to attend court, and if the driver wanted more all he had to do was request it via the CPS and he would have got it, as long as the request was reasonable.

Drivers compensation £10, victim surcharge £15.

Surely the drivers the victim so should have got the £15, or £10+£15 ? :?

The £15 is fixed by statute.

The £10 was fixed by the driver.

Are you saying that the £15 victim surcharge should be the same everywhere?
