City worker raped after getting into minicab after night out in Notting Hill

A city worker was raped by a stranger after getting into what she believed was a minicab after a night out in Notting Hill, a court heard.

Ali Moaberfard, 38, drove the woman to a house in Uxbridge where he raped her while she was semi-unconscious, the jury was told.

The woman said she woke to find the man having sex with her. She told Blackfriars crown court: “I felt disgusted, I had been taken somewhere against my will and someone had had sex with me against my will.

"He essentially kidnapped me — taken me to a house where I didn’t know where I was.”

In the morning. she was woken by the alleged rapist who told her that he had to go to work and would take her to the station, the court heard.

The woman said she drank six rum and Cokes at a party in May 2012 before deciding to leave at 1am.

“It was a free bar, I was having a good time, I don’t remember leaving the party — I don’t remember anything until I was in a car sometime later,” she said.

“I thought it was a minicab. He stopped, ushered me towards a house and I lay down on a sofa and passed out.

“I woke up and he was on top of me, my trousers and my underwear were pulled down and he was having sex with me. I was almost unable to move, I tried to push him off. I was quite weak, but he did stop after that — I was protesting, saying, ‘No’.”

The woman referred herself to the Whittington hospital a few hours after returning home, where staff contacted police.

Moaberfard was arrested in November 2012 after DNA tests were carried out on the woman’s clothing. Moaberfard, of Whetstone, denies rape. The trial continues.

Bogus minicab driver convicted of raping vulnerable victim as she slept

The victim woke to find Ali Moaberfard, 39, raping her. Despite telling him no, he continued and she passed out again, police said

A bogus mini cab driver who raped a vulnerable woman while she was asleep in his taxi has been convicted.

Following a re-trial, Ali Moaberfard, 39, of Madingley Court, Barnet, was found guilty of the rape of a 31-year-old woman on May 5 2012, Met Police said. He was convicted at Blackfriars Crown Court on Tuesday (August 11) and will be sentenced on October 2.

Police said the court heard that on the night of May 4 2012, the victim had been out in Notting Hill at a party. Leaving the party she took a 'cab' to get home.

The car was driven by Moaberfard and, instead of taking her home, he took the victim - who would have been clearly in a vulnerable state, police said - to an address in Uxbridge. It was here his victim fell asleep.

The victim then awoke to find Moaberfard raping her. Despite telling him no he continued and she passed out again, police added.

The following morning, Moaberfard dropped his victim at Uxbridge Underground station. From there, the victim went to hospital and later police were called and an investigation began.

Clothing from the victim contained a DNA trace that matched Moaberfard and he was arrested at his home on November 6 2014.

After answering "no comment" to questions put to him by detectives interviewing him, he was charged with the rape the next day.

Moaberfard's conviction follows an investigation by specialist detectives from the Sexual Offences, Exploitation and Child Abuse Command.

Detective Constable Vicky Stenning said: "Moaberfard targeted a vulnerable woman who thought he was taking her home. I would like to praise her bravery in coming forward and speaking with police.

"I would urge anyone who has been a victim of sexual assault to speak with us so that we can bring perpetrators before the courts."

Police would always recommend anyone wishing to travel by cab should ensure they use a licensed firm. All minicabs must be licensed by TfL and must be booked in advance .

Met Police have issued the following advice:

Any minicab that isn't booked by phone, email, an app or in a licensed minicab office is illegal and unsafe.

•If it's not booked it's not safe;
•If you approach a minicab directly, only the driver knows where you are going;
•A minicab that has a licence or sticker in the window (or a driver who has a badge) still needs to be booked in advance;
•A legal minicab is one that is booked in advance with a licensed minicab firm so that your journey, the driver and the vehicle can be traced;
•Customers are not allowed to pick up a minicab offered by a bouncer or someone in a high vis jacket with a clipboard outside a venue;
•A minicab driver that approaches a customer directly on the street is acting illegally;
•Travelling with friends or family members does not make an un-booked minicab safe - nor does cab sharing with a stranger.
