Crawley taxi drivers to be given handbook on spotting when child passengers are being sexually abusedALL taxi drivers in Crawley who are licensed by the council are being given a handbook to educate them on how to spot the signs of child sexual exploitation.
Crawley Borough Council has spent £1,800 on the small handbooks which explain how to report concerns and what the tell-tale signs are that a child may be being ferried around the town to be sexually abused.
C5 Consultancy Ltd has produced the documents on behalf of the council and their creation is part of a drive to safeguard children in Crawley to prevent them being exploited in the same way as in Rotherham, where a large-scale paedophile ring was operating.
In that case taxis were often being used to transport children around the borough and effectively deliver them to child abusers.
A report found that at least 1,400 children were subjected to sexual exploitation between 1997 and 2013.
