How do other PH drivers feel about Uber coming to more cities across the UK?

Threat or opportunity?

Interested to know other peoples fears, or if others are considering giving it a go?

Neither here no there IMO, they are what they are. If nothing else they'll make punters aware of Apps to hail taxis/ph with so that's good thing. They'll take 20% of a drivers income, that's a bad thing. Overall they're no different than the current operated circuits were somebody somewhere is getting money for doing very little at all and the driver earning it for them is appreciated as much as muck under your shoe :D

I wouldn't mind being able to use them in addition to my existing operator but I am pretty sure that won't be an option if it came down to having to choose between where I am now or working solely for Uber then I will be staying where I am partly based on better the devil you know reasoning and also without spelling out my reasoning I would not want all of my income paid into my bank account.

I couldn't be arsed with changing door magnets all the time between companies.

Door signs should only be used to provide evidence of license, years ago it was necessary to have names on them so people could approach the correct vehicle to see if it was theirs, but, with technology as it is now there is no need for names on door signs as all the information is given via text message to the customer about which vehicle has come to collect them. If this was applied there would be no need to change door signs around

So what do drivers do if they're working for Delta and they are also working for UBER, do they leave their Delta magnets on or run bare/ Most punters like to see the name of the company on the side of the vehicle.

It's a condition of licence in Sefton that the P/H have to display the name of the company they are working for...you would not want a vulnerable person or child to be put in the wrong vehicle..

Both.

However what we need is for local drivers to do the local work, be that Uber or the existing operators.

What we don't want is Uber legally using non local licensed vehicles, only a buffoon would want that.

Yes that is the GMB position. ](*,)

If a present you have 2000 Glasgow licensed vehicles (just a guess for example), and you have 2000 punters.

If Uber take 200 of those vehicles, you will still have 1800 existing licensed vehicles, but guess what? You will still have those 2000 punters.

For drivers there is no concern, it's only existing operators that should worry.

Glasgow has 1400 hackneys which are regulated, and at a guess 2000 privates which are unregulated, i drive a hackney and was planning on buying in but uber has gave me cold feet. I fear uber will allow private hire to eat into the hackney customer base, but i'm just guessing and wont know for sure till it comes here.

An Uber spokesperson said: ""To launch in a new city Uber needs two things, a license to operate - which we have - and a team on the ground to run the business.

"At this stage we are looking for the right people to run the business. As such we don't as yet have a set launch date, although we're looking forward to offering our award-winning service in Glasgow."

Operating in over 300 cities around the world, Uber matches passengers to the nearest available driver via a phone’s GPS signal.

Part-owned by Google, the firm have a license to operate in Glasgow for one year and will operate from an office at 151 West George Street.

I hope you mean the number of licenses are restricted and unrestricted and not regulated and unregulated.
