Taxi licence costs set to fall

THE cost of being a taxi driver in the Braintree district is set to fall.

A Hackney Carriage or private hire licence is currently priced at £92 for one year, but new legislation means the council now has to offer a three year entitlement.

From October 1 this will cost £263, meaning an overall saving of £13.

Drivers will still be able to apply for a one-year licence on a pro-rata basis if they have special circumstances.

The latter, but the wording of the new act doesn't really help.
