Magical Taxi Tour sets off from Canary Wharf

The charity event taking sick children for a three-day trip of a lifetime at Disneyland Paris featured a convoy measuring three miles while Manhattan Grill packed up 500 lunches for the excited travellers.

A convoy of black cabs made its way from Canary Wharf filled with excited youngsters en route to Disneyland Paris.

The 100-car procession - organised by the Magical Taxi Tour and Worshipful Company of Hackney Carriage Drivers - made its way from the estate at 8.10am on September 18.

Measuring up to three miles, it also included City of London police escorts, Gendarmerie Nationale, London Ambulance NHS Trust vehicles and AA breakdown trucks.

The charity had organised a three-day trip of a lifetime to offer more than 250 sick children a break from treatment and therapy at the magical resort in France.

After meeting the Lord Mayor of London, the bright-eyed travellers bundled into the cars and made their way to Dover, where they caught a ferry to Calais.

Meanwhile, West India Quay restaurant Manhattan Grill made sure they wouldn’t go hungry by packing more than 500 lunches for the group to munch during their journey.

Restaurant manager Henning Kramer said: “It brings our team immense amounts of joy every year to be able to contribute to this amazing and important event.

“When we’re making hundreds of sandwiches for the packed lunches we try to have a bit of fun with it, so we hold competitions between the kitchen team and the waiting team to see who can make the most sandwiches in the least amount of time.”
