Roofer jailed for repeatedly kicking taxi driver in head in Croydon after refusing to pay his fareA ROOFER who repeatedly kicked a 65-year-old taxi driver in the head in South Croydon after refusing to pay his fare has been jailed.
Alfie Good, 23, of Court Wood Lane, Forestdale, attacked the taxi driver in Melville Avenue on June 28 last year.
He had refused to leave the taxi after saying he had no money before a violent struggle ensued, leaving the driver requiring hospital treatment.
Good was jailed for 18 months at Croydon Crown Court on Friday (September 18) after pleading guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH).
He had waved down the taxi driver in South End, Croydon, at approximately 1am and asked to be taken to Foxearth Road, Selsdon.
When they reached his destination, Good started swearing and saying he had no cash. The taxi driver drove to Melville Avenue and asked Good to leave the vehicle.
Good refused and, as the taxi driver attempted to remove him from the vehicle, attacked him.
After a violent struggle, the taxi driver overpowered him and pinned him to the ground.
But when the driver released Good after the roofer had sad he had had enough, Good jumped to his feet and started kicking the man in the head while he was still on his kness.
Good walked off after, leaving the man curled on the ground.
Despite the injuries, the taxi driver was able to call police and Good was arrested a short time later at the junction of Melville Avenue and Croham Road.
Good denied the offence throughout despite his arrest near the scene and being picked out in an identification parade. He only changed his plea on the first day of the trial.
Detective Constable Brad Stow, from Croydon CID, said: "The sentence reflects the seriousness of the assault carried out by Good and his complete unwillingness to accept his actions until the trial started."
