Body of taxi driver found ‘stabbed’ in Dundalk A 53-year-old local taxi driver found dead on a road in Dundalk, Co Louth, is believed to have been stabbed a few miles outside the town.
The man has been named locally as Martin Mulligan a father-of-two from Dundalk.
He was a well-known independent taxi driver and began working in his Skoda Octavia, registration number 07 LH 5599, on Sunday at around 9.30pm.
His body was found by a female passer-by on a small country road in the Kilcurry area, parallel to the M1, at around 3am on Monday. The road, known as the Armagh road, is a popular route north from Dundalk into south Armagh.
His silver-coloured vehicle, with a taxi roof sign was parked a short distance away.
The taxi, along with another car, have been taken away for further tests after forensic officers examined the scene and the deputy state pathologist conducted preliminary examinations.
Mr Mulligan’s body has been removed for a post mortem to take place.
Gardaí are investigating the circumstances and are appealing for witnesses and anyone who may have used Mr Mulligan’s services during the night to contact them.
They would also like to hear from people who were in the Cran More/Kilcurry area between 1am and 3.30am.
