Taxi drivers’ licence cost faces substantial hike

TAXI drivers in Ceredigion are facing substantial increases in the cost of their licences.

The decision by council Cabinet members to increase the costs came after a proposal to almost double the cost of a dual-driver licence.

Previously an application for a dual-driver licence, which lasts for one year, cost £145.

But under the new suggestions that would increase to £278 for a yearly licence, with a three-year licence costing £323.

The cost for a Hackney carriage licence has increased slightly from £191 to £196, with the cost of renewals actually going down from £191 to £149.

A licence for a new private hire vehicle will now cost £159, compared to the previous fee of £145, although a renewal would cost £144 compared to the previous fee of £145.

There will be new three and five-year licences for private hire operators which would cost £296 and £378 respectively, although a three-year renewal for a private hire operator will increase from £205 to £274, and a five-year renewal for a private hire operator will cost £344.

Scrutiny committee members had said they were happy with the increases, and Cabinet members said they were also prepared to back the new fees.
