Private hire driver rushed to hospital after being BATTERED by passenger

A PRIVATE hire driver was rushed to hospital after being battered by a passenger.

The 54-year-old man is understood to have picked up a fare in the East End of Glasgow on Monday night.

However, when he dropped the two men and a woman off in Bellshill, he was attacked.

Police said the incident took place at around 9.30pm in a car park near the Carousel Bar - around ten miles from where the driver picked up the hire.

He was taken to hospital and remains in a "serious" condition.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "At around 9.30pm on Monday, a 54-year-old man sustained serious injuries during a disturbance on Hamilton Road, Bellshill.

"He was taken to Wishaw General Hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

"Inquiries are ongoing."
