Wrexham Minicab Driver Drove With Expired Licence

A Wrexham Private Hire Driver has been fined for driving a Minicab without a valid licence.

On Thursday 22nd October, Wrexham Magistrates prosecuted a Wrexham Private Hire Driver for working in a Private Hire Vehicle after his licence had expired.

Gareth Frank Griffiths of Forrest Walk, Buckley had held a Private Hire Licence with Wrexham Council since 2011. Licensing Officers received a complaint on the manner of Mr Griffiths driving and on further investigation found that his licence had expired three days previously.

In that time he carried out 47 Private Hire Journeys.

Enquiries with Wrexham Prestige Taxis showed that Mr Griffiths had worked on a number of dates after the expiry of the licence. The office computer system would usually have detected the expiry date, however on this occasion a computer fault meant that the issue was not flagged up.

Mr Griffiths did not attend court and the matter was dealt with in his absence. The court imposed fines and costs totalling £470.

Cllr David Kelly, Lead Member for Place – Planning and Public Protection “The result reflects that the Courts take licensing matters very seriously. procedures are put in place to ensure that all licensed drivers are fit and proper to pick up passengers, which in many cases are young children or vulnerable people.

“All licensed drivers are vetted for criminal convictions and must be licensed appropriately. Mr Griffiths had not renewed his licence and therefore no longer had the authority to pick up passengers”

No that would be a far too reasonable course of action.

Go for the workers, leave the bosses alone.
