Man convinces council he's quit smoking cannabis to get taxi licenceA DALMUIR man has been granted a taxi licence after convincing authorities he has quit smoking cannabis.
William Smith, of Durban Avenue, was questioned about his use of the drug at West Dunbartonshire Council’s licensing committee last Wednesday.
Mr Smith had applied to operate a taxi within the local authority area, but was called in front of councillors when Police Scotland informed them he had been found in possession of cannabis.
Smith was at his home in July 2015 when officers, who attended the house on a separate matter, smelt cannabis at the property. They found a single cannabis roll-up, which Smith admitted to smoking.
Mr Smith said: “That was the last time I smoked it to be honest. When I was much younger I would smoke it more regularly but over the last 15 to 20 years it has been extremely few and far between.”
Councillors unanimously agreed to grant Mr Smith a licence.
