http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/trave ... ution.html Unpopular “kiss-and-drop” charges could be extended to more UK airports after the transport minister praised them as an effective way to encourage people to take public transport. Robert Goodwill said the charges, imposed on drivers wishing to drop off their friends or family at the terminal entrance, were a valuable weapon in the fight to improve air quality in and around major airports, The Independent reports. Mr Goodwill, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Transport, told the Transport Select Committee: “A number of airports, including Leeds Bradford, have a £2 or £3 drop-off fee. That not only raises revenue for the airport and helps the airport with the cost of security - drop-offs are a particular security issue - but also makes a little additional argument for using public transport to get to an airport.” He added: “We are very keen for people to move from the car to public transport. If we provide reliable, clean and cost-effective public transport solutions, whether that be bus or train, people will take that option.” So yet again politicians want to penalise taxis because we are not buses and trains and whats the betting the government will be looking to get their "cut" for the treasury |

Use it for pick ups as well as drop offs. I was waiting there an hour last week, only paid £1 when I went through the gate?

just stick it on the fare, the punters aint that stupid that they would expect a complete stranger to pay 3 quid or whatever so they can get dropped off , dunno what all the fuss is about, they stuck a quid charge for 10 mins at newcastle airport, so our set fares went up a quid & we don't take return bookings now, they are advised to call while waiting for luggage, these people aint your mates/family, they pay what's on the meter + extras |
