Three taxi drivers injured after incident outside pub

A TAXI driver is today in hospital with a suspected fractured jaw following an attack outside a city pub.

It is believed the man - who works for Tunstall-based City Central Taxis - is awaiting an emergency operation.

The incident, outside The Village Tavern, in Joiners Square happened at 2.34am on Saturday morning.

It is thought more than five people, including two other taxi drivers, were involved.

Staffordshire Police has confirmed that two men are helping police with their enquiries.

An appeal for witnesses has now been launched.

Duty inspector Phil Fortun said: "Officers were called to the Village Tavern, in Leek Road, at 2.38am on Saturday morning to an altercation between two, and possibly others, with a taxi driver.

"The taxi driver appeared to have suffered a facial fracture and is being treated at hospital.

"Two people are helping police with their inquiries and we would urge anyone with any information to come forward."

A spokesman for City Central Taxis said: "Three of our drivers were involved. One of the men has been taken to hospital because he had his jaw smashed."

Witnesses should call Staffordshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 99 of November 28.

What difference does it make as to whether it is from a pub Or wherever at that time of the morning? You can bet that 99% of those who are up and about at that time.......will have drank or taken something or another.

Well it made a big difference to the fella that got attacked.

But if you want that work, fill your boots because I don't.

That is your choice I don't work late night either but if you do picking up at a pub at stupid O'clock in the morning is part and parcel of this trade and if punters want a service then battering drivers is not a way of encouraging drivers to work

In most of the Cities and Towns, it is not a case of "If you want that work", it is a case of.........it is all that is out there.

And if I did I would be a lot more choosy with what I picked up.

I love money as much as anyone, but I'm not taking chances with my well being for no-one.

Maybe some are being brave sitting in front of a black cab screen, but for a saloon car driver, I would sooner starve than pick up from a pub at 2.45 am.
