Tesco apologises for telling diabetic taxi driver to use car park as toiletTesco have apologised to a diabetic taxi driver after a manager told him to ‘use the car park’ to go to the toilet.
Amer Butt, of Seymour Road, Slough, said his diabetes makes him need the toilet more than most people.
He was on his way to Heathrow with a customer on Tuesday morning when he needed the lavatory.
He said the customer suggested he stopped at the Tesco Express in Horton Road, Datchet.
“I went in and spoke to a lady on the till and she understood but said she was not able to let me in so went to get the manager,” he said.
“The manager came down and said I can’t use the toilet.
“I was really, really trying with him but he still said no. All I wanted to do was use the toilet.
“I said ‘well should I just go in the car park?’ and he said ‘go ahead and do it there’.
“He was a bit rude but eventually I didn’t have a choice.
“I was really furious about the way he treated me.
“They should have the decency to let people use the toilet if they are diabetic or disabled.”
Since the incident, Tesco customer service has apologised.
A spokesman said: “We are taking this matter very seriously and will investigate what happened with the store.
“We are very sorry that we caused distress to Mr Butt, and we have contacted him directly to offer our sincere apologies.”
