its all part of the ongoing good relationship between the press and Cardiff's taxis

The usual crap from a very undemocratic newspaper, in fact a newspaper that suppresses facts right left and center.

NOBODY has ever asked as to what the root cause of the problem is! They are afraid of the truth.

The truth being is that they have driven the tariff down and down to enable those in a City of low wages to afford a taxi home. The major problem being is that the drivers need to cover overheads and to earn a decent living. On the present tariff and the massive 30p increase  to come, they cannot do it, so they are cutting corners.

The likes of Ely is an area is common with many other places whereby you have to ask for money up front. If you then read the story he decided to join the queue where there just so happened to be taxis and got a nice taxi driver (make of that what you will). With the guy from Barry he will know the score - yes it is money up front, and nobody puts the meter on as they can stay in the City and make a better return.

The bottom line being is that you get what you pay for at the end of the day - if you want cheap anything.....then you do not get the best.

P.S. I am glad that I am out of it.

The first one said it will be £20 rather than the £15 he usually pays, well the driver is entitled to charge more. That's the law if it is outside of the area.

Second one said he would do it on the meter, what's wrong with that?

After that drivers have got the hump with the fella filming, as would have I.

However the bit that confuses me is what there is a queue a mile long for cabs, when you can get one 100 yards up the road. :-k

There are two Marshalled taxi ranks, as you can see he did not want to queue. With 900+ taxis around the City you cannot all queue at the Marshalled ranks....so they literally stop anywhere.

1. The £20 driver is out of order as it is within the bounderies, as such the meter has to go on. The guy is distorting the truth when he says he normally pays £15! He says he has lived in Cardiff for 30 years, if that is the case then he will know that the fare on the meter will go no more than £12/13.

2. As you say they driver said he would do it on the meter.....what exactly does he want

3. I would get the hump with anyone filming me and using foul language.

4. The City is blocked off at certain points every Fri/Sat night. Where those drivers were they would have about a mile detour to the marshalled rank, only to find that they cannot get on there, so they wait on that side of the City center for bookings Or a fare.

You have not been in the game 5 minutes!

More often than not it is a pre curser (the way that they speak) prior to getting in, as to how they are going to behave during the journey. Contrary to your perceived knowledge..........you have much to learn Grasshopper.

I agree entirely if they are gobbling off before they get in it will only get worse en route.

It would seem that regardless as to how long you have been doing the job....you still nevertheless fail to recognise a problematic passenger. The guy was out for his 15 minutes of fame at the expense of the taxi trade.

Trust me when I tell you that if anyone (not that I have anything to hide) starts sticking a cam into my face or cab.......then they are trying to find an excuse to get you/me into trouble! Do I need that type of person anywhere near me? Do you then allow them to film the rest of the journey so that they can claim that I was say 1mph over the speed limit thus a claim ! Wake up and smell the coffee/roses/whatever.......the guy was a complete A.H. who refused to queue and refused the offer of a fare on the meter.

One driver agreed to take him on the meter and he just walked away, to the next driver he started spouting how he was born here etc etc, so the driver was right in not taking him.

But I can't understand why he didn't get into the cab which was happy to use the meter?

i can, if he was ranting & raving well he would be told to fook off, but he wasn't & just explained what he was doing with the cam
