Taxi driver reverses car into canal by Sainsbury's

Car still waiting to be fished out of Huddersfield Broad canal

This taxi driver’s drop-off in Aspley didn’t go quite to plan.

He had just taken a passenger to the canal wharf on Saturday evening and then popped his car into reverse on the Sainsbury’s side of the canal.

Unfortunately he went back a bit too far and the car careered into Huddersfield Broad canal at around 6.40pm.

The driver managed to scramble out unhurt and was checked over by an ambulance crew called to the scene.

The car – which is licensed through Calderdale Council – was still in the canal today waiting to be recovered.
