Man faces jail after trying to kidnap taxi driverAn Aberystwyth man has admitted attempting to kidnap a taxi driver.
Thomas Patrick Mooney, 29, of 3a Park Avenue, attended a plea and case management hearing before Judge Huw Davies at Swansea Crown Court.
Mooney admitted attempting to kidnap Patrick Nicholas on 13 October and possessing three knives in a public place in Rhydyfelin, Aberystwyth.
Mooney also admitted driving a Ford Focus along the A470 near Aberystwyth while disqualified.
Mooney denied a charge of robbing Mr Nicholas of a car and a quantity of cash.
Jim Davis, prosecuting, said the pleas were acceptable to the Crown Prosecution Service and no evidence would be offered on the robbery charge.
Mooney’s barrister, Paul Hobson, said he appreciated how serious the offences were.
Judge Davies agreed to sentence Mooney after a probation officer had prepared a report into his background.
But he warned Mooney he was not holding out any hope of anything other than a prison sentence being the eventual outcome.
Mooney was further remanded into custody meanwhile.
