Taxi driver dressed as zombie priest facing jail after vile Halloween attack on woman CAMPBELL Stevenson, 38, denied the attack in 2014 but was found guilty yesterday after a trial at Hamilton Sheriff Court. A PERVERT who carried out a sex attack on a woman after a Loyalist flute band’s Halloween party is facing jail. Campbell Stevenson, 38, had been dressed as a zombie priest before he pounced. The taxi driver had been at the event with his wife and family but forced himself on the 33-year-old victim after driving her home. He denied the attack in 2014 but was found guilty yesterday after a trial at Hamilton Sheriff Court. The woman told the trial dad-of-two Stevenson pretended he was making sure she arrived home safely from High Blantyre Hall. But he followed her into her flat. She said: “He started kissing me. I was pushing him away, I was pushing him back to try and get him off.” He texted her in the next few days but she replied: “That was out of order what you did to me on Saturday, please stop texting me.” Stevenson texted back: “I know it was, I’m sorry.” Sheriff Douglas Brown deferred sentence on Stevenson, from East Kilbride, and put him on the sex offenders’ register. Taxi driver dressed as zombie priest molested woman after giving her a lift from Halloween party Campbell Stevenson denied carrying out the sex attack on November 1, 2014, but a jury found him guilty after deliberating for nearly two hours A taxi driver dressed as a zombie priest for a Halloween party subjected a woman to a cruel sex attack after giving her a lift home. Campbell Stevenson, 38, had been partying with dozens of other revellers at the Lanarkshire Loyalist Flute Band's bash in High Blantyre Hall. Stevenson, of East Kilbride, had organised the event and attended with his wife Donna and other members of his family. His victim had also been at the bash where loyalist bands were playing during a 'Culture Day'. Stevenson molested the woman after he dropped her home in a taxi when the party stopped early after fighting broke out. A trial at Hamilton Sheriff Court heard the father-of-two deny carrying out the sex attack on November 1, 2014, but a jury found him guilty after deliberating for nearly two hours. Gerry McGuire, defending, said Stevenson had been sacked from his taxi job, reports the Daily Record. He said: "He is now separated from his wife as a result of these proceedings but she is still supportive of him. "He is now staying with his father and as a result of this conviction he has lost his job as a taxi driver and is now receiving benefit. "He has found it extremely difficult not to be working and has been assisting friends and family doing decorating work." He added: "His financial situation is dire because of this conviction. "He has lost his job as a result of this and that has given him great difficulties, he has already been punished as a result of this. Stevenson's trial heard he sent sleazy and provocative texts to the woman in the run-up to the incident. He continued to text her in the days after the attack but stopped when she replied: "That was out of order what you did to me on Saturday, please stop texting me. " Stevenson then said: "I know it was, I'm sorry, I won't text you again and will stay out of your way as much as possible." Stevenson told the court: "I was asked to take her into the house and she was that unsteady on her feet I had to take her by the arm. "I helped her up her two steps into the house and went in and then she put her hand on my shoulder and kissed me, I stupidly kissed her back and then realised what I was doing and pushed her back. "The whole thing lasted about a second but I pushed her back, told her to get to her bed and then about turned and went back to the taxi. "I was embarrassed by it but didn't tell anyone because I thought it may cause trouble and put it down to a drunken mistake. "I didn't attack her, everything she has said is complete and utter lies because it just didn't happen." Stevenson's victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told how he put his hand into her underwear. She said: "I was pushing him away, I was pushing him back to try and get him off." He pushed me off and forced his hand down me, it all happened so quickly. "When he started kissing me I never thought he would do that." Sheriff Douglas Brown said: "The charge against you was very serious. "I'm satisfied reluctantly that there is an alternative to a custodial sentence available in this case and you will be placed on a community pay back order where you will have to carry out 300 hours of unpaid work." source: http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/ta ... st-7539339 |
