New teal taxi revealed as part of controversial policy changes

Taxi drivers have objected to the policy changes, which will see all cars rebranded in the council's 'corporate teal' colour

The first taxi in Guildford ’s fleet has been rebranded with the council’s corporate teal colour, despite many drivers continuing to oppose the policy changes .

Richard Gough of Rent-a-Taxi this week posed for publicity pictures with Graham Ellwood, the lead councillor at Guildford Borough Council for community safety and licensing, who has been working on the taxi policy changes.

Taxi drivers have objected to the new colour, claiming it is an unnecessary expense which will be borne by the passengers.

Cllr Ellwood said: “We are delighted with the appearance of the new Guildford livery.

“It is instantly recognisable as a licensed taxi helping people to clearly identify our taxis throughout the borough

“This new livery will increase the safety and wellbeing of our new residents who can be reassured that the teal taxis have been licensed and meet professional standards.

“I am looking forward to seeing more taxis with the new livery on our roads soon.”

Taxi drivers who have objected to the changes had taken their argument to the magistrates court , which was dismissed .

They have since said they will be applying for a judicial review.
