Revealed: the strict dress code for cabbies in one Merseyside borough Dirty clothes, caps, and flip flops are a no-no, after a recent request to relax the rules was turned down Taxi drivers in St Helens now haveto adhere to a dress code. Photo credit: Jonathan Brady/PA Wire Flip-flops, shellsuits and baseball caps - these are just some of the items taxi drivers in St Helens are banned from wearing. Both Hackney cab and private hire drivers in the borough have to pay attention to what appears to be the only taxi dress code in Merseyside. And the “minimum standard of dress” rules are not going anywhere soon after a request to relax the code was refused this week. Labour-run St Helens council has dubbed dirty clothes, caps and flip flops as “unacceptable” in its taxi licensing policy. Bare chests, unclean or damaged clothing, offensive or suggestive graphics or logos and headwear covering any of the face are also frowned upon. Refusing a request to loosen the rules, a council report said the standard of local drivers’ appearance was a “key issue”, so the wording could not be relaxed. One respondent in its wider consultation over taxi rules had asked for the detailed list to be replaced simply with the words “smart, clean and tidy”. Jimmy Aden, director of local firm Britannia Radio cars, said he supported the council’s efforts to keep drivers looking smart. He said: “I don’t have a problem with it, as long as it’s reasonable. I don’t think drivers should be wearing vests - some people are offended by that. But 90% of cabbies are well-presented anyway.” St Helens council declined to comment, while no other Merseyside council contacted by the ECHO said they had a dress code for taxi drivers. source: http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/loc ... s-10993965 |

If you buy "Ripped Jeans" which were all the rage a few years ago, it would be hard to tell what was "Damage" and what was "What was paid for"!
