Post subject:  Thugs get 12 years for taxi attack
TWO teenage thugs who stabbed a taxi driver and hijacked his car were caged for 12 years each today. Cabbie Barry McGlinchey was stabbed so ferociously his bicep was sliced in half and he needed extensive surgery to repair his tendons.

Mr McGlinchey, a father-of-two, told the High Court in Glasgow Scott Crossan, 19, restrained him with both hands round his throat, while Gary Thomson, 17, repeatedly stabbed him in the shoulder and arm.

Mr McGlinchey said he never thought he would see his children again.
But somehow he managed to escape from the car while Crossan and Thomson drove away, crashing it soon afterwards.

Crossan, of Coatbridge Road, and Thomson, of Glenmavis Road, both Glenmavis, Airdrie, admitted attempting to murder Mr McGlinchey in his taxi on December 4, last year, at Gayne Drive, Glenboig, and robbing him of the car.

During the trial each blamed the other for using the knife but today, when they appeared for sentencing, judge Rita Rae told them: "Both of you are equally guilty." She labelled the attack "cowardly" and added: "What is lacking is any real sense of remorse."

They initially denied the charge but after their victim gave evidence they changed their pleas to guilty.

At least they got 12 years. You can get less than that for manslaughter :-o
