Taxi driver stabbed several times

A taxi driver is in intensive care after being stabbed several times during an attack in Shropshire.

Police said the 28-year-old driver suffered numerous puncture wounds and has undergone surgery. His condition is described as critical but stable.

The attack happened after he took a passenger to Woodside, Telford, on Wednesday night.

He was dragged out of his blue taxi by people from a car which had been following him.

A West Mercia Police spokeswoman said he had noticed the car behind him as he dropped the fare off in Willowfield.

Police are carrying out house-to-house inquiries and the area has been cordoned off.

Acting Insp Pete Brophy said: "This is a serious incident and we are thoroughly investigating the matter."
