from BBC news website

A human-carrying drone has been given approval for test flights in Nevada, the first of its kind in the United States.
The autonomous drone - dubbed 184 - can carry one passenger and was developed by Chinese company EHang.
A prototype was shown off at this year's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, with the company hoping to sell the drones later this year.
Experts were divided over whether such a system would have mass appeal.
Officials from the Nevada Institute for Autonomous Systems granted permission for the drone to be tested and offered to help EHang submit the results to the Federal Aviation Administration in a bid to win further approval.
It is not clear whether the drone will carry a passenger during tests.
"I personally look forward to the day when drone taxis are part of Nevada's transportation system," the institute's business development director, Mark Barker, told local the Las Vegas Review Journal.
The prototype drone is over 4ft (1.2m) tall, weighs 440lb (200kg) and has eight propellers.

so who fancies being a guinea pig then

A drone is no replacement for a Human Driver, can you Imagine a procession of these things, each one unwilling to overtake another, Crawling along in Rain or Snow without the Human Input that makes decisions through Instinct and Experience, the Worse the weather gets the slower these things will Crawl thus blocking up the road for everyone else, Or if you break down in some dark place with no one else with you for comfort or security or to help you out should you take a Bad turn, people will die.

You could be attacked by anyone anywhere just by someone standing in your path, the vehicle would stop but be unable to commit to taking evasive action to evade the threat like a Human driver could..a licence to all muggers and pervs everywhere to take advantage.

You'd have no one to talk to, no one to ask advice from, you'd be a sad lonely person in a strange place.

I really don't think that these Single themed obsessive boffins that design such vehicles have given much thought to the passengers needs and focused all their creativity on the Drone concept rather than that of the end user.

Waste of time and money and it'll create a fast trak route to the Dole office for millions who'll not can afford a Taxi in anycase because they'll be unemployed and skint through other Labour saving robotisation in every market sector.

A hiding to nothing.

The way I read this is that it is not a car but some kind of small aircraft.

it looks like a cross between a helicopter and a camera drone I certainly don't think I would feel safe in one 8-[

I think the words 'drone' and 'taxi driver' generally go hand in hand.

But it would have to be a big drone to transport some of the whoppers we pick up.
