Tilehurst attack: taxi driver racially abused and headbutted

A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault after a taxi driver was headbutted and racially abused in Tilehurst on Friday night.

At around 11.35pm on June 1 a man and woman were dropped off by the driver in Severn Way but when they were asked to pay their fare the man refused and became aggressive. An argument broke out and the passenger allegedly hurled racial abuse at the driver before striking him.

A 28-year-old man from Reading has since been arrested on suspicion of assault thereby occasioning actual bodily harm. He has been bailed until Friday, July 22. But Thames Valley Police is still appealing for witnesses.

The offender has been described as a slim white man with short curly hair and prominent ears, who is around 5 ft 5 and in his twenties. Reports suggest he was wearing light blue jeans, a patterned knitted jumper and trainers when he attacked the driver.
