Man beaten up by three men in street fight after row over taxi business THREE men fought with another man in a residential street – after a dispute about the ownership of a taxi firm. Zafar Iqbal, aged 57, Zabair Hussain, aged 37, and 18-year-old Tayyab Hussain clashed with a man who became aggressive when he arrived at Iqbal's home. Other residents then came out of their homes to split up the fight. The victim was left with injuries including scratches and grazes. Now all three defendants have been sentenced to a 12-month community order. Prosecutor Benjamin Lawrence said the victim arrived at Iqbal's house in Chaplin Road, Normacot, at 3.30pm on July 14 last year to discuss a dispute over the ownership of a taxi firm. Mr Lawrence said: “There was an intention to discuss their dispute. Zabair attempted to strike the complainant while in a car. “Zafar Iqbal punched the complainant's jaw. "Tayyab used blows to the right head area of the complainant." The victim was left with a scratch mark to his temple, three grazes to his left arm, a graze to his abdomen and a cut to his back. All three defendants, who live in Chaplin Road, Normacot, pleaded guilty to affray. Richard Oldroyd, representing Iqbal, said he has never been in any trouble before. He said his client had now sold his interest in the taxi business to the other man who he now works for. Mr Oldroyd added: “The problem has been resolved to the satisfaction of both parties." Barry White, mitigating for Tayyab Hussain, said the teenager was aged 17 at the time of the incident. Laura Hobson, for Zabair Hussain, said he also acted out of character. Judge Paul Glenn sentenced all three defendants to a 12-month community order. Iqbal and Zabair Hussain must complete 80 hours unpaid work and Tayyab Hussain was ordered to carry out 60 hours. Judge Glenn said: “This background is a civil dispute. I am relieved to see it is now settled. It had rumbled on for some years. "The complainant went to Iqbal's address and was being aggressive “A fight developed in the street. It was an ugly incident. Your actions went beyond self-defence. "The complainant sustained injuries. "The three of you were responsible for causing them. “Others came out to break it up and diffuse the situation. “This was a nasty incident. "The police should not have to deal with this sort of volatile situation." All three men were ordered to pay £500 costs. Read more at http://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/man-beat ... p5WmDGO.99 |
