Pair jailed after threatening taxi driver Two career criminals have been jailed after threatening a taxi driver with a knife in Birmingham.
Michael Johnson (right), 29, of Audley Road, Stechford and Tony Walker (left), 23, of Somervile House, Chelmsley Wood admitted stealing the taxi driver's takings after he picked them up on Audley Road on the 29th of June.
Johnson and Walker directed the driver to take them to Walker’s home on Waterson Croft in Chelmsley Wood, but when they arrived at the destination they threatened the driver with a knife and stole cash and a sat nav.
After a 999 call from the taxi driver, police were quickly at the scene. At the same time information came over the police radio that Walker, who was wanted for another crime - had been spotted running into Somerville House.
The pair were arrested from Walker’s flat and following a search of the property the stolen sat nav was discovered.
Walker was jailed for four years six months and Johnson who was also convicted of two further robberies where he stole cash and a mobile phone from his ex-partner and her friend was jailed for five years.
"The hapless thugs thought they could get away with the robbery, but what he didn’t realise is that we had had a tip-off that Walker, who was wanted for criminal damage had just arrived at his property. We hope that this conviction brings some comfort to the victim who was subjected to what must have been a terrifying ordeal."
