Unannounced spot checks on a council area, including Bourne and the Deepings, has seen penalty points for some taxi drivers. But licensed taxis in Bourne and the Deepings were given a clean bill of health by South Kesteven District Council (SKDC).

The checks were carried out last month to make sure taxi drivers were following the correct legislation, including visual checks to ensure vehicles were clean and tidy, taxi licences were in order, plates displayed correctly on licensed vehicles and drivers had SKDC badges with them. Coun Nick Craft, SKDC’s executive member for environment, said: “We are working with taxi drivers to ensure high standards are followed by all and there was a good response from the drivers we spoke with.” Taxi drivers in Bourne and the Deepings faired better than those in Stamford where penalty points were handed down for matters which included not picking up passengers from authorised ranks Coun Craft said: “Following protocol on where they can collect fares and displaying the correct licences at all times is very important. “It means public and traffic safety is maintained and any resident or visitor using a taxi for a journey can have peace of mind that they are using a South Kesteven-licensed vehicle.”
