Councillors to boycott meeting to honour 'Taxigate' councillor

A former Milton Keynes councillor who allowed a rapist to become a taxi driver could be given one of the town's highest civic honours at a meeting tonight (Wednesday September 14).

But many councillors have voiced their opposition to Liberal Democrat Stuart Burke's nomination as an Alderman and are set to boycott the meetings. Two-thirds of the councillors need to agree for the resolution to be passed.

Mr Burke was chairman of the council's taxi licensing committee when Nadeem Ahmed Kiani was given a private hire licence for Milton Keynes in 2011.

Subhan Shafiq, who was the mayor of Milton Keynes and personally vouched for Kiani as a friend in 2011, resigned in 2014 when the council released a report into the affair and the council revoked Kiani's licence in 2014.

Kiani was convicted of raping and assaulting prostitutes in London in 1994.

Because to boycott shows contempt, to vote against, yet lose, would not show contempt.

I would support their boycott.

This does not earn you a wobbly though.

Could be party politics. The ones that want to boycott the meeting may have to go against the party whip, should this Council use this system, if they attend.

Torys are usually up to a deal if their masonic lodge organisation cant cook it up! but the Lap dogs are just fookin stoopid as well as being corrupt and gutless #-o
