Taxis: Disability Department for Transport written question – answered on 15th September 2016. Rob Marris Shadow Minister (Treasury) To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what steps he is taking to increase the number of accessible taxis. Andrew Jones Parliamentary Under-Secretary (Department for Transport) Government is committed to giving disabled people the same access to transport services as other members of society. It also recognises the particularly significant role played by taxis and private hire vehicle (PHV) operators for many disabled people, in helping them to remain active and independent. It is for local authorities to specify a number of accessible vehicles to be within their licensed taxi and private hire vehicle fleet, and to take account of their public sector equality duties when doing so. |

Since the answer given by Andrew Jones, Parliamentary Under-Secretary(Department for Transport) in answering a question. He has been devious in given this answer declaring that the equality duties mean a Council has to specify a number of accessible vehicles it licenses. It could occur where a large weight comes down on a Council who has no accessible TAXIS or private hire vehicles. |

I don't know where this idea of there being huge numbers needed comes from where is the unmet demand ? |

Aye..theres more Volunteer Wheels Vehicles than there are Disabled Punters...and all their so called "Charity" directors doing very nicely out of it .. |
