one of our guys did that a while ago. fiest time he had all 6 seats filled so puts the meter on to rate 2 (time & half). then got pulled in to the office the following monday and got an ear full off the boss as the punters rang to complain.
so thats why they are all thinking why bother getting a 6 seater...

If he charged what he shouldn't have, then he got what he deserved. But my point was to get operators and councils to change their rates.

Cos in the end the punters win.

Scott,this is a usual fri/sat,thing with six/seven seaters,I have been
running these for years and during the week it is only on the odd
occasions that you are called upon.
Could be for the darts or dominoe teams.
Sometimes a good job comes along, but normally, the customers want
the bigger taxi in between 7-8 pm fri/sat.
Also if you are running a wav, there is not a great demand in the
evening for this type of taxi-ing.
There is only a certain ammount of jobs that you can do in between
7/8pm,but if more larger vehicles come on,the saloon taxis will start
complaining.
Bit of a problem for all, hopefully nothing silly will happen.
Probably the Dundee public will start looking for the bigger cab,as
a few months ago when the PH company in Dundee had 9 or 10 of
these, they looked busy enough at the weekend.

Why can't you charge more?

If you work as a PH, get your firm to charge fare and a half for 6+ passengers. It will still work out cheaper than two cars.

And if you work as a HC, then get the council to amend the tariff. As with the PH, it will be cheaper for the punters in the end.

Round here if a five/six seater (PH) is asked for or more than four people jump into the vehicle then they punters are charged a fare and a half which is worked out by using the tariff for that time of day.

for what its worth, we used to charge night rate for more than 5 passengers, this worked out at time and a quarter on the daytime tariff.

If the customer hired a cab when our night rate was applied, we didnt charge any extra.

Until a customer complained to the council.

the end result is now we send two four seaters.

a win, win situation and the practice has been adopted throughout our district.

regards

Captain Cab

(so much for the argument that if a job is pre booked its private hire, but then I no better than to start this argument) The wirral has a lot to answer for.

Scott, still makes roughly 60 more, could be tough times ahead, unless the majority of these new plates, could have been the guys that were hiring, and these hired plates have been thrown in.
If not thrown in,may be difficult for these plates to go through police
test with yet another new driver(plate hirer).
Cab officer has his wits about him regarding the hired plates scenario.
