Detectives tell revellers not to travel home alone after night out following attack on woman in Rhos on Sea

Clubbers are being warned not to travel alone after a young woman was raped by a rogue "taxi" driver.

Detectives said late night revellers should travel home with friends following the attack in Rhos on Sea in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The woman was picked up in a vehicle, described as similar to a black taxi cab or MPV minivan, close to Glanrafon Avenue, at the Llandudno side of the Little Orme.

He then drove her more than two miles to Cayley Promenade at the top of the embankment where he assaulted her.

Officers urged people to take precautions accepting lifts or getting into taxis as they appealed for anyone who may have seen a similar vehicle in the area at the time.

It is not known if it is a licensed taxi or not.

Detective Chief Inspector Andrew Williams said: “We received a report of a sexual assault in the location of the Cayley Promenade, Rhos-on-Sea at around 2.15am to 3.50am on Tuesday, November 1.

“The young woman involved is understood to have been assaulted in a dark coloured vehicle on Cayley Promenade at the top of the embankment.

“We believe the woman got into the vehicle at some point between Glanrafon Avenue, at the Llandudno side of the Little Orme, and Rhos-on-Sea.

“We’re keen to trace any sightings of similar vehicles seen in and between those areas at that time of the morning.

“We would remind the public to take the usual precautions when accepting lifts or getting into taxis. People should ensure that they are accompanied by friends, particularly if they have been drinking.

“They should also satisfy themselves that taxis and private hire vehicles are legitimate and driven by licensed drivers.

“We are supporting the family at what is understandably a very difficult and distressing time for them.”
