FOUR Cambridge taxi drivers apparently refused to take woman with broken arm to Arbury

Rosie Andrews was refused a fare despite having injuries

A badly injured woman says she was left in agony after FOUR taxi drivers in Cambridge refused to take her to Arbury.

Rosie Andrews, 23, who lives off King’s Hedges Road, fell after a night out in the city on December 4.

She said: “I slipped on ice and sustained two dislocated breaks to my wrist, one in my radius and ulna, resulting in a great amount of pain. I was desperate to get home and see my dad for a second opinion and much needed ride to the hospital.

“Myself and my friend approached the rank on Market Square. As I was hollering in pain, an off duty paramedic came to my assistance. During this time my friend was turned down by four taxi drivers because we wanted to go to Arbury, despite seeing the huge amount of pain I was in.

“When a driver finally agreed, the paramedic so kindly came in the taxi home with us to reassure me and even paid my fare - which I would like to pay back if only I knew who he was.”

Rosie, who added she had not been drinking, continued: “I am totally shocked and appalled that this happened to me whilst in the situation I was.

"I was in a great amount of pain after snapping my wrist which was clear to see.

"It is unbelievable that these taxi drivers felt it necessary to decline my journey. A total lack of basic human nature.”

Cambridge taxi drivers on a Facebook forum rallied to support Ms Andrews, with one even offering her a free ride.

Rashel Mohammed, of the Cambridge Hackney & Private Hire Association, said: “This is a bad, damaging practice that happens on both sides,
private hire vehicles and Hackney carriage vehicles and needs reporting. You can easily note their number plate and I assure you when reported, particularly with city, they are dealt with.”

A Cambridge City Council spokesman said: “It is an offence for Hackney Carriage vehicles to refuse fares to any destination within the city boundary, without good reason, but it is difficult for us to take any further action unless you are able to identify the vehicles concerned.

“However please be assured that this is an issue that we take seriously and will always take enforcement action where we have clear evidence of any offence that breaches taxi law and/or falls within our enforcement management system.”

And there's me thinking ambulances take the sick and injured to hospital. To add insult to injury, (unintended pun), the (apparent) off duty paramedic, did not recognise all/any of these injuries!!! Instead he escorted her home
