Friends from St Albans miss wedding after taxi confusion

A groups of friends are calling on somebody to take responsibility after they missed the wedding of a close friend when after their taxi failed to show up.

Nick Fleet, 22, from the Marshalswick area of St Albans, booked a taxi from St Albans Drivr to take him and his friends to a wedding in Hitchin.

After looking online, Mr Fleet booked the taxi weeks before the wedding and received a booking confirmation and a quote for £76, but on the day of the wedding the taxi failed to turn up.

Mr Fleet said: “The taxi did not turn up for more than 30 minutes and I called the number quoted in the confirmation email.

“They claimed to have no record of the booking despite my quoting the reference.

“I then explained we were on our way to a wedding and would be late so they set about booking us another taxi.

“However I was quoted £110 to rebook the same journey.

The phone operator then saidwent on to say that one of his colleagues had emailed Mr Fleetme since Ihe made the booking, and saidthat the quote he I had received was incorrect and would be higher.

He added: “Not only did I not receive an email from the company but this completely contradicted their previous claim that they had no record of our booking.

“Even if this was the case, and the quote was wrong, there would be no reason to cancel the taxi as we would still need to make the journey.”

Mr Fleet was told the new taxi would be with them but it arrived at around 4.20pm, meaning they turned up at the wedding half an hour late and missing the actual ceremony.

He said: “We were all incredibly disappointed that we had missed the wedding and even more disappointed in our treatment by the company.

“When trying to contact St Albans Drivr I had to speak to A1 Taxis which confused me.”

After filing a complaint, Mr Fleet discovered there was nothing much Drivr could do as the company ended their co-operation with St Albans Taxi months ago.

Jeremy Clark, from Drivr, said: “Drivr is a national company and has not been operating in St Albans since around July this year.

“A man started up his own business called Drivr St Albans using our logo but now that company has been dissolved.

“We have been telling the man to take down the website but he has not been in touch. We cannot give a refund as Mr Fleet ordered his taxi through Drivr St Albans.”

According to Mr Clark, Drivr St Albans worked in partnership with A1 Taxis who have said they do not have any booking reference for Mr Fleet.

I wonder if he went for the cheapest, and paid the real cost for doing so?

the thing is with online/phone quotes ( well what i found anyway) was that the person giving the quote has no idea at all , its some daft lass in the office who cant even drive let alone driven a cab taxi before, when i was p/h some of the quotes were about 5-8 quid adrift, now the other side of the coin is these punters took her word as gospel, they would get in the car & hand over lets say £11 & say where they were going , i would say"its on the meter mate, we don't do a set fare to your destination" then they would say " the lass on the desk said it would be £11, i would phone the office & put it on loudspeaker, " hiya got this fare & he claims you said it was £11?" she would then say ( & he could hear )" no i didn't i said it would be ABOUT £11 but its on the meter" , so its on the meter mate, still want it or not?, aye ok mate, get to the destination , " that will be £16 mate , cheers  used to fooking hate set fares me
