UPDATE- Council Respond to Taxi Drivers Asking To Impose Ban on Uber Drivers

As statement has been released following GMB's appeal to remove Uber's license in York.

Matt Boxall, Head of Public Protection, said:

‘Private hire vehicles and drivers licensed by a local council are perfectly entitled to pick up pre-booked passengers anywhere in England, when booked through a licensed operator.

‘We do not have any legal powers to stop licensed vehicles – Uber or anyone else - from outside York coming to the city.

‘However, we are working closely with neighbouring councils to monitor and enforce the law to try and manage the impact of vehicles working across different areas.

‘We have also stepped up our own local enforcement activity in light of drivers’ concerns, with staff working late into the night to check compliance’.

But the police do, don't the police work with the council?

Are you saying that the police have powers to stop vehicles from going to a town or city? On what grounds?

It would appear some misinterpret statements made.

Councils should utilise the police in stopping out of town vehicles to enable relevant checks to be made.

I do not think Man.City meant stop out of town vehicles entering York full stop.
