Hertsmere Council undertaking consultation on Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Licensing

A consultation is under way on a draft council policy for Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Licensing in Hertsmere.

The council has responsibility for licensing Hackney carriage and private hire drivers, proprietors and operators within Hertsmere and the policy aims to ensure both the trade and the public have ready access to a document which fully explains our licensing requirements.

Cllr John Donne of Potters Bar Parkfield ward, chairman of the council’s Licensing Committee, said: “As a council we have an important role to play in ensuring that the trade offers a reliable, safe, modern taxi and private hire fleet and provides protection for the public using the service.

“The new draft policy aims to bring together a number of documents and policies which have been in place for a number of years. Whilst these have been fit for purpose, the new policy which we are consulting on brings everything together and up to date.”

The consultation exercise on the new policy document runs until February 17, 2017 and is open to both the trade and members of the public.

All comments will be considered as part of the review and in preparation of the final policy document.

You can send your response to the Licensing Team, Hertsmere Borough Council, Civic Offices, Elstree Way, Borehamwood, Herts WD6 1WA or by email to licensing.taxis@hertsmere.gov.uk please include the words ‘Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Policy’ in the subject field.
