A woman has died six days after she was knocked down by a private hire taxi.

Joan Crilly, 69, was taken to hospital last Thursday after she was struck by the minicab while crossing the road in Greenock, Inverclyde.

Police and emergency services were called to the incident on Campbell Street and Ms Crilly suffered serious injuries.

The driver was uninjured and six days later she died from her injuries in hospital.

Police have launched an investigation and are calling for anyone who say the collision to get in touch.

A statement from Police Scotland said: "The 73 year old driver of the Skoda was not injured. The 69 year-old woman was taken by ambulance to the Inverclyde Royal Hospital, Greenock where she remained for treatment.

"She was then transferred to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where she died as a result of her injuries on Wednesday 28 December 2016.

"A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal. The 69 year-old woman can now be named as Joan Crilly, from the Greenock area.

"Enquiries into establishing the circumstances of the incident are continuing. Anyone with any information is asked to contact road policing officers at Greenock Police Office on 101."

Very sad all around.

Whilst we must have sympathies for the lady's family, I suspect the driver will never be the same again.

No doubt they'll rip him to bits and he'll cop the blame.
