I am not sure exactly what happened or why it did but yesterday the Police in Manchester City Centre removed the Licence plates from at least 3 Rossendale licenced vehicles outside Piccadilly Train Station. Whether they were ''hackneys'' or ''ph'' I don't know. Would be good to know why this happened. Of course it's long overdue as these Rossis are working in Manchester with impunity and seem above the law. |

Sign at Manchester test center A driver seen with a phone mounted on a holder on the vehicle windscreen will have their ''plates'' removed under a GV9 suspension notice and will have to get vehicle tested again Could this be the reason for removal of plates in Manchester ? |

Removing the plate is a very extreme way to deal with any licensing law offence or breach of licensing condition. If the vehicle isn't safe, then it should be put of the road. If the driver isn't safe then he should be removed from the vehicle. Not saying I'm a fan of non local cars working predominately anywhere other than where they are licensed, but what we don't need are the police to imagine they have powers they don't actually have. |

The Police could well have been assisting Licensing authorities in the matter...I am not sure whether they acted alone or otherwise... |

Removing of plate is down to the council and that is what they tell the police to do ..........they think that the plate is their property.....as I am charged separately for it I disagree.. |

Removing the plate is not Illegal...I have seen it done many times in Manchester.... The time before this was when the Licence plate had a different vehicle reg number to the reg number on the vehicle ...simply because the driver had a personalised plate and changed it without informing the council and getting a new licence plate. |
