A taxi driver has been acquitted of assault and racial abuse against a fellow cabbie.

William Dean, aged 53, was due to face trial at Plymouth Crown Court but prosecutors offered no evidence against him.

Mr Dean had denied five counts of racially-aggravated assault and threatening behaviour – though some counts were alternatives.

The charges follow complaints made about Mr Dean in the city centre in May last year.

Nigel Hall, for the Crown Prosecution Service, told the jury that there was no longer any realistic prospect of conviction.

Recorder Simon Levene formally recorded not guilty verdicts on all counts.

Mr Dean, of The Heathers, Woolwell, released from the dock an innocent man.

I think chris was hinting that this might have been a false accusation and the accusers might be in trouble
