A WOMAN fled from a taxi after being sexually assaulted by the driver in Newcastle, police have said.

The woman hailed the black hackney style cab sometime after 3am in the Pilgrim Street area.

The cab pulled over in Orchard Place, Newcastle

Between 3am and 4am the taxi parked in Orchard Place, Jesmond, where the driver allegedly touched the woman inappropriately.

The woman said she screamed, fled the car and reported the incident to cops.

Police have launched an investigation and appealed for witnesses.
