It’s illegal to use a hand-held phone or similar device while driving, or riding a motorcycle. The rules are the same if you’re stopped at traffic lights or queuing in traffic.
Penalties for using your phone while driving
You could get 6 penalty points on your licence and a fine of £200.
Your case could also go to court and you could be disqualified from driving or riding and get a maximum fine of £1,000. Drivers of buses or goods vehicles could get a maximum fine of £2,500.

Undoubtedly, you are all aware of the change in the law. My reason for offering it as a subject for consideration and discussion is this. Where does this leave all those Uber partners (I use the term partner advisedly) who either; have a smart phone issued to them by Uber or have to provide their own smart phone to accept the offers of jobs sent to them by the company?

I can't say I have had any reliability problems with any of the Bluetooth headsets I've owned..

I think all the time it's in a cradle it's legal.

Unless it's being held in the hand, it's not hand held.

The LAW change applies to any web enabled device and one would think that the policing of this would begin with our TAXI and private hire operations as there is "No exclusions" Phones,data heads and card payment mechanisms all fall foul of this LAW,heed the warning,park up and turn ignition off then remove the key and you definitely will not be prosecuted.

If it has a sim card it's a mobile device. Use a PDA to accept a job and you are breaking the law because you are reading a text message. They've been out round here today in force topping the coffers up.

A few years ago someone round here got his collar felt by the law, they pulled up at the side of him at some traffic lights when he accepted a job on his PDA, he was reading the job when they told him to pull over after the lights. They drilled him a new arsehole but used their common sense and didn't issue him with a ticket.
